Discovered in 2000 at the age of 21, Zac Posen made his breakthrough creating a gown for Naomy Campbell when was still a student. Born and raised in New York, he was a fashion fanatic at early age. He went to private St. Ann’s School in Brooklyn and, while still in high school, he interned with designer Nicole Miller. After the graduation, he went back to New York and set up an atelier… That is how family business started: his mom, Susan, is his business manager, and his older sister, Alexandra, became the label’s creative director.
Posen had his first show in 2002, receiving mixed reviews and gaining respect for its increasingly streamlined aesthetic of forties-inflected tailoring, mermaid-esque gowns, and itty-bitty cocktail frocks. In 2004 he achieved the Swarovski’s Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear. His first retail store was opened in New York in 2011. Natalie Portman, Rihanna, Amanda Seyfried, Kate Winslet, Claire Danes, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Mischa Barton, Beyoncé and many more become his clients. Extremely confident and self-assured and powered women – that’s how Posen describes his customers.
His Pre-Fall 2014 collection is everything but not simple. He’s still committed to after-eight dressing, focusing on cleaner shapes. Figure-flattering, sophisticated, feminine pieces, wonderful formal dresses and tailored skirts are shown at the runway.
