Tips for Visiting Disney World with Kids

Every kid dreams of visiting the land of miracles, land of fun and adventure, the land of princesses and heroes…the land where everything can happen, the one and only Disneyland! As we grow up with the movies and cartoons made in Disney Studios visiting Disneyland is like coming true to one of the dearest wishes.

Walt Disney came up with the concept of Disneyland after visiting various amusement parks with his daughters in the 1930s and 1940s. He initially envisioned building a tourist attraction adjacent to his studios in Burbank to entertain fans who wished to visit; however, he soon realized that the proposed site was too small. After hiring a consultant to help him determine an appropriate site for his project, Walt bought a 160-acre (65 ha) site near Anaheim in 1953. Construction began in 1954 and the park was unveiled during a special televised press event on the ABC Television Network on July 17, 1955.

Since its opening, Disneyland has undergone a number of expansions and renovations to make this place even more fun for the kids that come to visit their heroes from all over the world.

But, not just for kids, Disneyland is an adventure for the whole family, yet, no just adventure, it is a challenge. Planning a family vacation to Disney World can come with a lot of stressful expectations, starting from the budget, the tickets, the rides, trying to set the time, food, walking, buying souvenirs, talking photos, over all Walt Disney World can be complex and costly destination.

So, before heading to your fun family vacation plane it well and use some of our useful tips:[/tps_header]

Be prepared. Study the guidebooks (and don’t leave home without one). Be aware of park hours and that some attractions run on limited schedules. Use the age-by-age articles that follow to help you plan your itinerary, but also get a park map at your hotel so you can review the schedule beforehand.

The biggest mistake is trying to do everything in Disney World in a few days. The point is to have fun, not to drive everyone to exhaustion. Especially if you have little children, it’s important slow down and do as much as you can, but know when to head back to the hotel pool and chill out.

If you only have one day, do Magic Kingdom. If you have two, do Magic Kingdom plus either Epcot or Animal Kingdom. Hollywood Studios has the least to offer, so save that for longer trips.

Get to the theme parks early. This advice is especially important for Disney’s water parks, which can be packed by noon at peak times of year, and for the Animal Kingdom theme park, which closes early.

Use the “FASTPASS,” a system that’s available for the most popular rides and attractions. When a certain ride has a long line, the “Fast Pass” allows you to return later at a specified time, when you’ll get to ride without a lengthy wait.

Find in-park transportation. If you don’t want to do a lot of walking or if you have younger children with you, there are many modes of transportation you can use to get around the park faster. One of them is the Disneyland Railroad. This steam-powered train travels around the perimeter of the park, stopping at stations in or near each of the park’s main sections. It also passes through the Primeval World diorama, a special hit with dinosaur-loving youngsters. There are other public conveyances, particularly the buses, trolleys and horse-drawn wagons traversing Main Street.

Get food. Disneyland offers a wide variety of places to eat. Try to have lunch before noon because after that, hordes of hungry people will descend on every restaurant, cafe and snack wagon. As for the evening meal, eat before six because the dinner hour can also be very crowded. If you’re just looking for a small snack, there are food stands located throughout the park offering popcorn, cotton candy, french fries and lots more.
